Mozambique has been selected
together with other five African countries (Morocco Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia
and Uganda) to participate in the implementation of the pilot phase of the
Scan-ICT Project.
This Project aims at undertaking a baseline
study through desk research and/or primary research to produce the
Mozambican ICT profile.
The Universidade Eduardo Mondlane Centro de Informatica (CIUEM) is the
implementing institution.
The project will be implemented in the period of 1st January, to 15th
October, 2002.
The Scan-ICT initiative is being implemented in the framework of the
African Information Society Initiative (AISI) in collaboration between
the Acacia program of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Economic Commission for Africa
(ECA) with financial support from the European Union, IDRC, and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation
(NORAD).
At operational level the project will consist of a team of one Project
Coordinator and two Project Assistants with permanent character.
Additionally, the project will contract temporary staff for the fieldwork.
This group will mainly consist of students and some professionals.
At political level, the project will be monitored and advised by a local
steering committee. This Committee will include some of the stakeholders and
will be chaired by the Executive Secretary of the Mozambique Acacia Advisory
Committee (MAAC), who will simultaneously play the role of Project
Supervisor.
The pilot phase of SCAN will cover the following priority areas:
- Education,
- Health,
- Infrastructure,
- Public Sector,
- Private Sector and
- E-Commerce.
